Lake View And Coon Rapids To Receive $100,000 For Building Rehab From IEDA Community Catalyst Program

Lake View and Coon Rapids, along with 27 other Iowa communities, have been awarded $100,000 from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Community Catalyst Building Remediation Program. Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg announced the recipients at a special ceremony in Grinnell Thursday evening. The grant was created in 2018 to help spur fundamental, positive change in Iowa’s downtowns and is used to redevelop or rehabilitate buildings and stimulate economic growth and reinvestment. Coon Rapids plans to use its Catalyst funding to convert a former seed company building into new training space for an industrial biotech company. Lake View intends to use the grant to renovate the Mohr building near downtown. “Each catalyst project is unique, inspiring different types of growth and development depending on the communities where they’re located,” said Lt. Gov. Gregg. “We appreciate the engagement of local leadership and the combination of public and private investment it takes to make the catalyst projects a reality.” A total of $2.9 million will be awarded in this year’s grant cycle, with more than half of the selected communities having populations less than 1,500.
