Lake City Man Charged With Drug Trafficking Scheduled For Sentencing Jan. 13

The sentencing hearing for a Lake City man accused of drug trafficking has been scheduled for early next year. According to Carroll County District Court records, 59-year-old James Roger Evans was originally charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, a class B felony and possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor. On April 22, a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Deputy located 36 grams of methamphetamine and nearly six grams of marijuana in the saddle bag of Evans’ motorcycle during a traffic stop. Documents filed Nov. 25 by the Carroll County Attorney’s Office show Evans has entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, five grams or less, a class C felony, with the remaining counts to be dismissed. A pre-sentencing investigation has been ordered, and the state has indicated they will support the recommendation of that report. Evans is slated for sentencing on Monday, Jan. 13 at the Carroll County Courthouse.
