Jefferson Resident Arrested On Drug Charges For Items Seized After Fire

Jefferson authorities have arrested a resident following an investigation into drugs and paraphernalia found during their response to a house fire. The Jefferson Police Department reports that Austin Taylor O’Connell was taken into custody at approximately 5:37 p.m. Wednesday and charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance marijuana and unlawful possession of prescription drugs, both serious misdemeanors, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. The charges stem from an Oct. 30 fire in the second-story bathroom of the home in the 300 block of West Lincoln Way Street. Firefighters advised officers they had seen the drugs and paraphernalia in plain sight while extinguishing the fire. The suspect items were seized and sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) laboratory for testing. Warrants were issued following the report on those results.
