Jefferson Authorities Investigate Theft Of HVAC System And Water Heater

An investigation has been initiated after a property owner in Jefferson notified authorities items were missing following an eviction. The Jefferson Police Department responded to the 300 block of North Vine Street at approximately 10:44 a.m. Thursday. John Kusel told officers that a furnace/air conditioning unit and a water heater, valued at about $7,000 each, were missing from the residence. In Iowa, the theft of property valued at $10,000 or less is a class D felony, which is punishable by up to five years in prison and fines of up to $7,500. If the value of the stolen property is more than $10,000, the crime is elevated to a class C felony, which is punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and a maximum of 10 years in prison.
