J.D. Scholten Throws Hat Back In The Ring In Race For 4th Congressional Seat In 2020

After a tight, three-point loss to Iowa’s 4th Congressional District Congressman Republican incumbent, Steve King, in 2018, Democrat, J.D. Scholten is announcing his bid for the 2020 election. Scholten officially launches his campaign today (Monday) with a video narrated by Kevin Costner and a kick-off rally in his hometown of Sioux City. He says he is working to build a grassroots campaign, focused on meeting with, listening to and earning the trust and support of voters in all 39 counties in the district. “Too many Iowan families feel like they’re getting kicked in the dirt, suffering from an economy and a government that just doesn’t have their interests at heart,” Scholten says. “We need a system that works for all people, not just special interests and those who are lucky enough to be at the top.” He says he is in this to fix the healthcare system, fight for an economy for all and secure our democracy. He will also hold a 9 p.m. rally in Ames on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Mother’s Pub. Scholten was born in Ames and raised in Sioux City. Following successful showings in high school and college baseball, he pursued a professional career, pitching in seven different countries. He has since worked as a paralegal, where he developed a passion for specializing in pro-bono cases.
