Iowa’s U.S. Senators Call For Investigation Into Human Trafficking And Child Labor In The State

.S. Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst on Friday penned a letter to three federal agencies, calling on them to investigate allegations of human trafficking and child labor. Iowa constituents had contacted the senators about human trafficking networks that may be operating within the state, exploiting young people and skirting immigration and labor laws. “Given the gravity of these allegations, we request a meeting with the principals of the respective and appropriate investigative authorities within your agencies as soon as possible, so that we can share the details of the allegations we have received and discuss the next steps,” the letter says. The request was sent to the Acting Attorney General, Matthew Whitaker, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, Alexander Acosta, and the Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Ronald Vitiello.
