Humanities Iowa Historian, Rosa Snyder, Returns To Wall Lake Library Monday For Another “Off The Map” Presentation

The Wall Lake Public Library is welcoming back a Humanities Iowa historian and artist, Rosa Snyder, at the start of next week for a follow-up program on the history of disappearing towns in western Iowa. The upcoming presentation will focus on 10 former communities in Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Ida and Sac Counties. Her program will examine how each town was founded and the variety of factors that led to them being wiped from the map. Snyder has visited Wall Lake on several occasions: once to conduct research on the nearby communities of Grant City, Herring, Leota, Ulmer and Carnarvon and two other times to present at the library. Her previous programs have drawn large crowds, and library staff is excited to have her return. “Off the Map: Stories of Abandoned and Disappearing Towns around Iowa” begins at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15 at the library.
