Harvest Continues With Soybeans At 66 Percent And Corn At 26 Percent Complete

With a clearing in the weather at the latter end of last week, Iowa’s farmers were able to get back into the fields for an average of 4.1 days and move the corn harvest to 26 percent completed and soybeans to 66 percent harvested. This rate puts corn at eight days behind last year and 11 days behind the five-year average and soybeans equal to last year and six days behind average. According to the Iowa Crop Progress and Conditions Report for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 27, other fieldwork activities included spreading manure, applying anhydrous and baling corn stalks. After that wet start to the week, it became unseasonably cold and dry Thursday and Friday. Highs ranged in the upper 40s and overnight lows in the upper 20s and low 30s across portions of the state last week. Friday temps rebounded to the middle 50s for much of Iowa. The high temperature of 68 degrees, six degrees above average, was reported on Oct. 21 in Burlington and a temperature 12 degrees below normal of 20 degrees was reported on Oct. 26 in Cresco.
