Greene County Sheriff’s Office Responds To Multiple Accidents And Motorist Assists Friday

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to numerous motor vehicle accidents throughout the county Friday afternoon. Weather conditions played a role in several of these incidents, as blowing snow caused low visibility and slick roads. The first occurred at approximately 1:03 p.m. on Neola Avenue near 270th Street. According to law enforcement, 51-year-old Robert Schroeder, of Scranton, lost control of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler he was driving and went into the ditch. No injuries or damages were reported. At 3:16 p.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of A Avenue and 330th Street, about two miles east of Coon Rapids. Fifty-nine-year-old Orrin Phelps was operating a 1989 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer and had stopped. While the Phelps vehicle was stationary, it was struck from behind by a 2019 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer, driven by 26-year-old Dylan Robson. Damage to the Phelps trailer was estimated at $500 and $2,000 to the Robson semi. Robson was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance. About an hour later, deputies responded to the intersection of Highway 30 and Eaton Avenue, just north of Scranton. Seventeen-year-old Colton Davis of Jefferson reported he was traveling eastbound on 30 when a tire from another vehicle had come off and struck his vehicle’s mirror. A final, minor accident occurred at approximately 7:58 p.m. at the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. In addition to the accidents, deputies also assisted several motorists into the early morning hours on Saturday.
