Gov. Reynolds Proclaims Oct. 28-Nov. 1 Halloween Safety Week

Halloween, one of Iowa’s most widely celebrated holidays, falls on a Thursday this year. Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation on Friday declaring Oct. 28 through Nov. 1 as Halloween Safety Week to remind kids, parents and motorists to put additional emphasis on the welfare of trick-or-treaters. According to the National Safety Council, children are twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than any other day of the year. Representatives from the Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS), Ames, Winterset and Des Moines Police Departments, Washington County and Polk County Sheriff’s Offices, the Iowa State Patrol and costumed kids from surrounding communities joined Reynolds for the proclamation’s signing. Safety tips for families planning to celebrate Halloween this week can be found included with this story on our website.
