Glidden Man Facing 15 More Deer Hunting Violation Charges Out Of Taylor County

One week after 11 hunting violation charges were filed in Carroll County District Court against two Glidden men, another 15 have been filed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Taylor County. Conservation Officer, Andrea Bevington, says these are in addition to the seven individual charges 39-year-old Joshua Ray Snyder is facing in Carroll County and include allegations of poaching. Bevington says there were three deer involved in an investigation opened in November of 2018 into the alleged illegal harvest. There are six charges each on two of the antlered whitetail deer and another three on the third. These include three counts of illegal take/possession of antlered whitetail deer, two of possession of a prohibited rifle while deer hunting, falsely obtaining a duplicate any-sex deer bow license and tag, illegal transportation of deer, failure to tag an antlered deer, over limit of game—whitetail deer, no valid any-sex deer bow license and several other violations. Bevington says Snyder could be assessed liquidated damages.

For a deer measuring under 150 points, the liquidated damages could range from $4,000 up to $10,000. These could be offset if the magistrate sentences the defendant to community service in conjunction with the damages. Bevington says these would be in addition to the Carroll and Taylor County fines.

As far as authorities are concerned, this is still an active case. Joshua Snyder is scheduled for an initial appearance in Taylor County on Oct. 31 and in Carroll County on Nov. 7. In Carroll County, Joshua Snyder was charged with: interference with official acts; two counts of illegal possession of antlered deer; no deer tag or license for an antlered deer; illegal transportation of an antlered deer; over limit on whitetail deer; and failure to tag a deer. His father, 59-year-old Kenneth Frances Snyder, was charged with four counts of illegal possession of antlered whitetail deer in Carroll County. These charges arose from a search warrant on the Joshua Snyder case that was carried out on Nov. 19 and are, according to the DNR, an indirect result of their initial investigation.
