Former Breda Man Injured In Shooting Incident Last Year Faces Drug Charge In Carroll County District Court

One of the men injured in a shooting incident in Breda nearly a year ago now faces a formal drug charge in District Court for Carroll County. According to online records, 40-year-old Jacob Mark Helkenn of Schleswig faces one count of second-offense possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charge stems from an investigation into an incident on April 12 of last year, in which he and 36-year-old Andrew Wempe, residents of Breda at the time, were shot in the legs during a dispute. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Helkenn’s apartment later that day and located methamphetamine in his bedroom. His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, March 28 at the Carroll County Courthouse. Helkenn faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison and $6,250 in fines if found guilty of the charge.
