Formal Charges Filed Against Pair Accused Of Possessing Burglar’s Tools

Carroll County prosecutors have filed formal charges against two individuals accused of having burglary tools in their vehicle during a traffic stop. Trial information against 24-year-old Joshua Adam Petersen of Carroll and 37-year-old McKensie Rae Bess of Lake City was submitted Wednesday, July 31 in District Court for Carroll County. Petersen faces one count of possession of burglar’s tools and carrying weapons, both aggravated misdemeanors. Bess is also charged with possession of burglar’s tools. The charges stem from a traffic stop by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office near a farm residence in the 10000 block of Mahogany Avenue at 8:06 p.m. on July 9. Authorities say various tools, including multiple crow bars and a tool set were located in the vehicle. Petersen was also found to have a knife over eight inches within reach of his person at the time of his arrest. Their arraignment hearings are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty, Petersen faces up to four years in prison and $12,500 in fines, and Bess faces two years in prison and $6,250 in fines.
