The first deadline for open enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year is approaching. Applications are due to the resident and receiving districts by March 1. For students who will be entering school for the first time as a kindergartner, the deadline is Sept. 1. High school students, grades nine through 12, will not be eligible to participate in any varsity contests or competitions for the first 90 days of the school year after their transfer. If open enrolling out of a resident district, transportation responsibilities fall on the parent or guardian. This applies to all students, even those in the Individualized Education Program (IEP). However, if the student open enrolls to a district bordering their home county AND the parents’ income meets economic eligibility requirements, the family may receive a transportation stipend or it may be provided by the district. Income verification for these requests must be provided to the resident district.
