Final Legislative Forum Of This Session Is Saturday At DMACC In Carroll

The 88th General Assembly for the Iowa Legislature is winding down with a scheduled end date at May 3. Several controversial bills were debated and moved to the Governor’s desk this past week for signing. This includes a property tax transparency bill that could prevent local officials from making tax hikes of more than two percent without two-thirds majority approval from the governing body, a sports betting bill and one that will prevent Iowa’s Attorney General, Tom Miller, from entering out-of-state lawsuits without prior approval from the governor or the legislature. Our state representatives, Senator, Mark Segebart, and House Representative, Brian Best, will talk about what has passed and what items they feel will still be able to make it through this session as well as the projected end date at the final Carroll Chamber of Commerce Legislative Forum Saturday. The one-hour community-focused event will begin promptly at 10 a.m. in rooms 142 through 146 at the Carroll campus of Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). The legislators will begin the forum with opening comments and then answer a few questions developed by the Chamber’s Legislative Committee. The floor will then be opened to questions from the public.
