Fifty-Seven Local Farms Receive Century Or Heritage Designation At 2019 Iowa State Fair

One of the annual events to honor Iowa farmers at the Iowa State Fair included 57 local families as they were named Heritage and Century Farms. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation President, Craig Hill, and Vice-President, Joe Heinrich, honored these families along with 428 others on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Iowa State Fair Livestock Pavilion. The programs celebrate farms that have remained in ownership within the same families for 100 years at the Century level and 150 years at the Heritage. The Century Farm program was started as a part of the Nation’s Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. The Heritage Farm program began in 2006, on the 30th anniversary of the Century Farm program. Since their inception, more than 19,000 Iowa farms have received a Century designation and more than 1,000 a Heritage one. A full listing of local farms honored this year can be found below.
