Evansdale Woman Pleads Not Guilty To Forging Checks At Carroll County Convenience Store

An Evansdale woman accused of forging checks at a convenience store east of Breda has entered not guilty pleas to the charges filed against her. Carroll County District Court records say 27-year-old Miranda Marie DeWitt submitted her written pleas last week to two counts of forgery, class D felonies, which stem from incidents near the end of March. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, DeWitt allegedly filled out a check at Al’s Corner without the account holder’s knowledge to purchase items from the convenience store. An investigation by law enforcement shows she committed the same offense the following day with a check from the same account. DeWitt’s trial is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty, she faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and $15,000 in fines.
