Evansdale Woman Charged With Felony Forgery In District Court For Carroll County

A woman accused of falsely signing checks in Carroll County has been released from custody after appearing before a magistrate. According to Carroll County District Court records, 27-year-old Miranda Marie DeWitt, of Evansdale, is charged with one count of forgery, a class D felony. The charges stems from an investigation into an incident on March 19 at Al’s Corner east of Breda. DeWitt allegedly filled out a check without the account holder’s knowledge to purchase items from the convenience store. An investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office shows she committed the same offense the following day with a check from the same account. According to law enforcement, DeWitt admitted to these acts when questioned.  She has been released from the Carroll County jail on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on June 27 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty of the charge, she faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
