Eight Area Teachers Have Been Awarded Grants To Integrate Ag Into Studies

Eight local classrooms have gotten some assistance from the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation (IALF) to help with the integration of agriculture education into the classroom or after-school programs. The foundation has awarded 165 grants that can be used to fund innovative lessons, activities, classroom resources, guest speakers, outreach programs, field trips and more. “This year’s wide range of grant projects really show how agriculture can be used to teach a number of different subjects,” says IALF education program manager, Cindy Hall. “Projects will allow teachers to make learning real and relevant for their students and still align with state educational standards.” Local recipients include: Jill Weber and Sarah Buswell with the Carroll Community School District; Cory Behrens from Coon-Rapids Bayard Elementary; Robyn Anderson with the Early Learning Center; Jen Rohrbeck and Holly Warnke from Fairview Elementary; McKaylie Croghan at Glidden-Ralston; and Gene Folsom from the South Central Calhoun Middle School.
