Driver Faces OWI Charge Following Rollover Accident Near Westside Thursday

No injuries were reported following a single-vehicle rollover accident near Westside Thursday evening, but the driver has been cited for drinking and driving. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 10:01 p.m., about a half mile east of town on U.S. Highway 30. According to an initial investigation, 56-year-old Undra Schirra Smith was traveling westbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS when he lost control while negotiating a curve. The vehicle went into a skid, entering the north ditch and rolling once before coming to rest on its wheels. Damage to the car was estimated at $3,500. Smith was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Crawford County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of suspected minor injuries. He refused to provide a sample for a preliminary breath test to authorities and was issued citations for first-offense operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor, and failure to maintain control.
