Driver And Witness Accounts Of Rollover Accident In Carroll Monday Vary

Authorities received differing reports from a driver and a witness to a single-vehicle accident near the Carroll Armory on Monday afternoon. The Carroll Police Department was called to the scene at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 West and Burgess Avenue at approximately 3:14 p.m. Upon arrival, the officer found a 2014 Ford Edge on its top on the west side of Burgess Avenue. The driver, 23-year-old Jamie Jo Francis Theulen of Scranton, had exited the vehicle without assistance and was awaiting the arrival of paramedics. He told the officer he was westbound and passing a vehicle that was driving too slowly when he lost control while executing an offensive hand gesture. A witness that was driving in front of the Theulen vehicle reported she had turned onto Burgess and then heard squealing tires behind her. She looked into her rearview mirror and saw the Ford barrel through the intersection and strike the curb. Authorities noted the marks at the scene indicated the vehicle had attempted to negotiate the northbound turn, hit the curb, continued through a grassy area and then struck an electrical pole, causing the SUV to flip onto its top. Theulen was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of possible neck injuries. There was an estimated $4,000 in damage to the Edge. Charges are pending completion of the investigation.
