DNR Serves Four Citations To Rural Glidden Man As Part Of Poaching Investigation

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued four separate citations to a rural Glidden man for illegal possession of antlered deer as part of a larger, ongoing investigation. On Friday, an officer with the DNR presented the charges to 59-year-old Kenneth Frances Snyder at his home in the 16000 block of Zephyr Avenue in Carroll County. The deer and deer meat were seized as evidence on Nov. 19 when the DNR executed a search warrant at the residence as part of a poaching investigation involving 39-year-old Joshua Ray Snyder, also of Glidden. Conservation officers opened that investigation following a Nov. 13 posting on the Trophy Bucks of Iowa Facebook page showing Joshua Snyder posing with a whitetail deer killed in Taylor County. Snyder had registered the harvest on Nov. 13, but Lawrence Taxidermy in Blockton, the company hired to process the deer, reported it was delivered to them on Nov. 11. The officers also found a small bullet hole in the deer’s upper right lung area while inspecting the carcass, but the harvest had been reported under a duplicate any-sex bow license. In addition to the seizure of three whitetail bucks at the Zephyr Avenue residence, the DNR also confiscated an iPhone and 10 packages of processed venison. On Dec. 21, a hearing was held after Joshua Snyder filed a motion requesting the return of the evidence, claiming the improper law was cited when the warrant was requested. That motion was overruled on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in District Court for Carroll County. No formal charges have been filed against Joshua Snyder. The four counts against Kenneth Snyder are misdemeanors, carrying total fines and costs of $195 each. Joshua Snyder is the registered owner of Thrills Hills, LLC at the Zephyr Avenue address and Kenneth Snyder the registered owner of Ringnecks Inc. at the same location. Kenneth Snyder has been a member on the Carroll County Conservation Board since 1997 and has served on the board of the Carroll County Pheasants Forever Chapter. As with all charges, this is an accusation. Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. A hearing for Kenneth Snyder on this matter has been scheduled for Nov. 14. Kenneth Snyder and the DNR have not yet responded to requests for comments.
