The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced the closure of more than a half dozen state recreational areas due to flooding, including Springbrook State Park in Guthrie Center. The agency said in a statement Thursday that rapidly rising flood waters caused by an influx of snowmelt and rainfall into waterways has created potentially hazardous conditions in nine of the state’s parks. Officials are unsure how long they will remain closed, as it could take several days for the waters to recede. DNR staff will also need to finish with cleanup efforts before the parks can be reopened. A list of all the parks impacted by the flooding can be found included with this story on our website.
