Dense Fog Contributed To Fatality Accident Wednesday Near Odebolt

Dense fog is believed to be the cause of a fatality accident near Odebolt on Wednesday. According to the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, visibility was less than 200 feet when the accident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m.. An initial investigation indicates 58-year-old Rex Allen Sleight of Odebolt was traveling southbound in a 2005 Ford F150 on M35 and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 175. The Sleight pickup was struck on the passenger side by a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by 42-year-old Grant Alan Siebrecht of Lake View. Following the collision, both trucks came to rest in the ditch to the southeast of the intersection. Sleight, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Siebrecht did not require medical attention, but his passenger, Cody Auen of Lake View, was transported to Loring Hospital in Sac City by Ida Grove Emergency Medical Services for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Odebolt Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services and Sac County Medical Examiner’s Office.
