Dense Fog And A Slick Road Surface Responsible For Accident Tuesday Morning Near Glidden

Dense fog limited visibility on Tuesday morning and that combined with a snow-packed roadway, resulted in an accident on Sycamore Avenue at Highway 30, west of Glidden. At approximately 8:23 a.m., a 1994 International semi-tractor trailer, driven by 23-year-old Paul Dallas Steinkuehler of Manilla, was stopped at the intersection facing north. Behind him was a 2014 Toyota Highlander, driven by 66-year-old Linda Mae Iler of Lake City. Steinkuehler could not see any traffic approaching, and as he turned west onto Highway 30, he had some trouble gaining traction on the slick road surface. At the last second, he saw a vehicle approaching and attempted to back onto Sycamore Avenue to avoid a collision. Steinkuehler did not see the Iler vehicle behind him and Iler was unable to get her vehicle in reverse fast enough to avoid being struck. There was no damage to the semi, but there was an estimated $5,000 in damage to the Iler Toyota. No injuries were reported.
