Deer Activity Ramps Up In The Spring, And Area Drivers Are Cautioned After Two Accidents In One Night

There are particular times of year when deer activity tends to increase, and springtime is one of those. Drivers are cautioned that, typically, dusk to dawn are peak times for deer to wander and feed, but early evening brings more sightings as well. Be cautious and be on the lookout as authorities are often reporting more accidents involving deer this time of year, as evidenced by two on Tuesday night in Greene County. There was a total of about $6,000 in damages but, luckily, no injuries reported in those accidents. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office assisted both motorists, with the first call coming in at approximately 7:37 p.m. in the 1800 block of 235th Street, east of Jefferson. Twenty-seven-year-old Bailey Clark of Ogden hit a deer with her 2016 Town and Country, resulting in about $3,000 in damages. The second incident occurred at approximately 10:42 p.m. at the intersection of 220th Street and Orchard Avenue, also on the east side of Jefferson. Twenty-six-year-old Zachary Claassen of Boone hit a deer with his 2017 Dodge Journey. There was again a reported $3,000 in damages.
