Consumer Complaints Rise In 2018

The Iowa Attorney General’s Office is reporting that consumer complaints rose by 18 percent in 2018, led by complaints about vehicles, home improvement projects and scams. “It’s hard to pinpoint an exact reason for the increase, but we’re seeing more complaints in several categories,” Iowa Attorney General, Tom Miller, says. “Our investigators and attorneys attempt to resolve each complaint as fairly and justly as possible. In some cases, we could use the legislature’s help in strengthening Iowa laws to provide justice to consumers.” In total, the Consumer Protection Division received 3,495 complaints, up from 2,961 in 2017. That follows a five percent increase from 2016 to 2017.
