Conservation Efforts Of Three Local Farms To Be Recognized At Iowa State Fair

Three local family farming operations will be receiving special recognition on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Iowa State Fair. Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg will be joined by Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Director, Kayla Lyon, in presenting the Farm Environmental Leader Awards. The Laverne Greving Family Farm in Carroll County, the Glen and Bev Polzien and Brad and Kris Polzien families of Sac County and Jeff True of Calhoun County will be acknowledged for their voluntary actions to improve or protect the environment and our state’s natural resources. These winners were selected by a special committee that represents both conservation and agriculture groups, who based their selections on the scientifically-proven practices—such as cover crops, wetlands, bioreactors and saturated buffers—used in support of the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy. The special presentation ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Iowa State Fair Cattle Barn, Penningroth Media Center.
