Each year, Congress hosts an art competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” to recognize and encourage the talented youth in each congressional district. Any high-school student can participate, with district winners and a guest being flown to Washington, D.C. for a celebration and they will have their art piece displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year. Iowa’s Fourth District Congressman, Steve King, is inviting all area youth to consider submission of a piece. “It is a pleasure to shine a spotlight on Iowa’s young artists,” King says. “The students who take part in the Congressional Art Competition always display an abundance of creativity and talent. […] I look forward to seeing the winning work on display in the Capitol building.” All entries must be received in King’s Ames office by Monday, April 29. Framed pieces can be hand-delivered or mailed to the address provided here. Artwork may also be submitted electronically, but those entries must still contain all of the information required in the rules. The winner will be decided by King and announced on May 3. More details can also be found below.
