Chamber Legislative Forum Still On For Saturday Morning

We have another winter weather advisory moving into our area overnight, but at this time, the second Carroll Chamber of Commerce Legislative Forum is still scheduled to take place. Sixth District Iowa Senator, Mark Segebart, and 12th District House Representative, Brian Best, will be conversing with constituents from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Carroll Dental Associates building on Highway 71 north. The forums are kept to a tight one-hour schedule, and include brief opening remarks from each of the legislators. They are then asked at least two questions that have been prepared in advance by the Chamber’s Legislative Committee, and then the floor is opened to questions from the general public. In recent weeks, the legislators have passed a school funding bill that addresses inequities in per-pupil reimbursements as well as disparity in transportation expenses for some rural districts. They have also seen debate on a bill that would require all Iowa employers to utilize a citizenship verification system, the senate passed Logan’s Law for organ donation identification on fishing and hunting licenses and much more. The public is encouraged to participate in the once-monthly forums that are held throughout the legislative session.
