CCSD School Board Aproved Job Description Updates For Activity Sponsors And First Reading Of Facility Rental Policy

During the August 19 meeting of the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education, officials have taken steps to update board policies concerning extracurricular activities and facility rentals. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, told the board that nearly all of the proposed changes were for job descriptions of activity sponsors and were minor, but necessary.

The board voted unanimously to approve changes to nine different job descriptions, including: coaching, drama and prom sponsor positions. They then moved on to review the district’s facility rental policy. Director of Business Affairs, Gary Bengtson, says it was last updated in 2018, but that was only a temporary solution for the opening of the newly constructed Carroll Athletic Field.

Bengtson then brought that draft to Berlau, Activities Director, Randy Bissen, and Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, Jeff Dvorak, to develop the final draft. The five-page policy covers prohibited uses, scheduling, cancellations, usage fees and general rental requirements. The board voted unanimously to approve the policy’s first reading, with the second required reading to be considered at their September meeting. A copy of the Use or Rental of Facilities policy can be found included with this story on our website.
