CCSD Board Of Education Identifies Finalists For Interim Superintendent Position

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education has narrowed down their search for an interim superintendent to two candidates. The board formally identified Dr. Kevin Fiene and Marty Fonley as the frontrunners for the position in a statement Tuesday morning. Fiene currently works as an educational consultant with Grundmeyer Leader Services, the same firm that is overseeing the search for a new superintendent after Dr. Kevin Lein resigned earlier this month. Fiene has nearly 40 years of experience in education, including eight years as a superintendent: from 2010 to 2014 at East Sac County and from 2014 to 2018 at I-35 Schools in Truro. Fonley most recently served as superintendent for the Algona Community School District. He submitted his resignation in July of 2018 after 11 years there, amid what he called “negative insinuations and false statements” made against him while making budget cuts. The two candidates will be interviewed by the administrative team and central office staff on Thursday, Feb. 28, and the board hopes to have an interim superintendent selected as soon as possible. The board has also finalized the hiring timeline for a permanent replacement. Interested candidates will have until March 17 to submit their applications, and they will be reviewed during a closed meeting on March 26. They will then screen the applicants in another closed session on April 8 with formal interviews for the finalists on April 15. As in the last search, a variety of district and community stakeholders will assist with the interviews. Officials hope to have a new superintendent selected by the end of April.
