CCSD Approves Bid To Move Forward With Parking And Curb Reconfiguration Near Adams Elementary

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education approved a bid at Monday’s meeting to move ahead with sidewalk and parking changes on Adams Street to the west of Adams Elementary School. Officials are proposing to reconfigure about 320 feet of sidewalk and curb to allow for easier and safer loading and unloading of students. Building and Grounds Supervisor, Jeff Dvorak, says he communicated with several companies interested in completing the work, but only one was able to do it before classes start on Aug. 23.

According to Dvorak, the remaining crosswalk, the northernmost one, will no longer comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements following these changes. The City of Carroll is responsible for crosswalk maintenance, and Dvorak says they have been working with the city council to address what is needed on their end.

With a limited number of bids submitted, board members expressed some concern about whether they were getting a good deal on the project. Dvorak says he has run the numbers and believes they are at market level.

The board approved the $31,800 bid from Keith Nelson Builders unanimously, and work is expected to begin very soon.
