Carroll Woman Pleads Guilty To Credit Card Fraud Charge In District Court

A Carroll woman accused of credit card fraud has been sentenced to a two-year suspended prison term after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to Carroll County District Court records, 20-year-old Antonia Rose Romeo was originally charged with two counts of unlawful use of a credit card, an aggravated misdemeanor, for using a lost debit card to make unauthorized purchases at two Carroll retailers in early March. In exchange for her guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed one of the misdemeanor charges, the prison sentence was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. The sentence, if ever served, is to run consecutive to two one-year terms on unrelated drug convictions in Carroll County. Nearly $1,000 in fines and surcharges were also suspended, and Romeo will be required to pay restitution and court costs in connection to the charges.
