Carroll Resident Calls For Candlelight Vigil In Honor Of Victims In Weekend Mass Shootings

The nation has been stunned by two mass shootings, taking place within just 13 hours of each other this weekend. The first was Saturday morning in an El Paso, Texas shopping district. Twenty people died and another 26 were injured when a 21-year-old from a Dallas suburb opened fire. Then at around 1 a.m., another nine were killed and at least 27 more injured in a shooting at a popular downtown nightspot in Dayton, Ohio. After hearing these reports, Carroll resident, Mary Bruner, says she felt the need to take some kind of action.

One story in-particular from El Paso brought Bruner to near tears.

Bruner has put out word that she would like to see the region come together in a candlelight vigil to honor the victims. She adds that everyone is invited to come, even those who may not be of the same mindset as her. But before and after the vigil, she will be working on putting out a call to state and federal legislators about her views on gun control.

Bruner asks that people gather on the sidewalk by Highway 30 in front of the Carroll County Courthouse at 8 p.m. tonight (Monday). Attendees are asked to bring their own candle.Again, the vigil is open to everyone.
