Carroll PD Responds To Fireworks Complaint Over The Weekend

The weather turned pretty nice over the weekend, and the Carroll Police Department has reported their first fireworks call of the spring. At approximately 7:52 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, an officer was called to a complaint in the 900 block of West U.S. Highway 30. Nineteen-year-old Chual Gatluak of Storm Lake was cited for use of fireworks. The City of Carroll has permitted the sale of fireworks within the city limits, as is required by Iowa law, but they had exercised their right to restrict usage. At this time, fireworks, other than novelty classifications, are not allowed to be discharged within the city limits. During this year’s legislative session, a proposal was made to wrest that type of control back from the cities and counties it was assigned to a little over two years ago. However, the bill did not gain traction.
