Carroll One Of Four Area Cities Awarded Community Development Block Grants

The City of Carroll allocated $2,000 each toward the rehabilitation of five properties within the community as matching funds in their application for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Another $500 per project was added by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors and this commitment has resulted in an award of an additional $200,000 from the CDBG program. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says they just got the good news on Wednesday.

Property owners worked with Region XII Council of Governments and Housing Coordinator, Karla Janning and the five rehabilitation projects were selected prior to the application for the grant proceeds. One of the benefits of the program is that additional homes may be added at a later date.

The city will not have to add local matching funds for any new houses added. Other area cities awarded grants include: Guthrie Center at a total of $252,000 for six projects; Halbur will use a total of $210,500 for five rehabilitations; and Lake View has four homes earmarked with a grant and match total of $169,000. The CDBG fund is managed by the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
