Carroll Mayor Proclaims July Park And Recreation Month And Wishes Carroll A Happy Anniversary

Carroll city leaders recently proclaimed July as Park and Recreation Month and also wished a very happy anniversary to the City of Carroll as they celebrate 150 years. Mayor, Dr. Eric Jensen, welcomed members of the Carroll Aquatic Center team, thanking them for their work in helping provide healthy and fun recreational options to residents as well as contributing to its economic success. Following that, representatives from the Carroll Chamber of Commerce were on hand for the signing of the Sesquicentennial proclamation. Jensen recounted the incorporation of Carroll, named after the only Catholic and last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll of Carollton, Maryland, in September of 1869. Only 10 years later, the community was devastated by a major fire, but came together to rebuild the damaged portion a short time later. “Carroll has a long history of progressive vision, which has made it the hub of west central Iowa,” Jensen says, “and by continuing the traditions of the past, the future of Carroll will be secure for the leaders of tomorrow.” The Carroll Sesquicentennial celebration will officially begin on Friday, July 19 with a grill out competition and band in the downtown district. A full listing of events for the entire weekend can be found below.
