Carroll Man Pleads Not Guilty To Fraudulently Claiming $7,000+ In Unemployment Benefits

A Carroll man accused of illegally claiming more than $7,000 in unemployment benefits has entered a not guilty plea to the felony charge filed against him. According to Carroll County District Court records, 31-year-old Andrew Charles Schrauth submitted his written plea Wednesday to one count of second-degree fraudulent practice, a class D felony. Authorities say Schrauth received benefits totaling $7,277 between October of 2018 and February of 2019. An investigation revealed he allegedly reported an income of only $24 per week during this time while employed and making $24 per hour. His jury trial has been scheduled for Feb. 18 with a pretrial conference slated for Jan. 23. A class D felony carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
