Carroll Man Pleads Not Guilty To Felony Burglary Charges, Trial Scheduled For August

A Carroll man accused of breaking into vehicles while under the influence of alcohol is scheduled to go to trial later this summer. According to Carroll County District Court records, 38-year-old Joshua Merle Stout has entered not guilty pleas to two counts of third-degree burglary, class D felonies with habitual offender enhancements, and one count of third-offense public intoxication, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident on April 2 in Carroll. Witnesses report Stout was seen at approximately 6 p.m. in the driver’s seat of their vehicle and indicate multiple items, including loose change, a phone charger and tools, were missing from the vehicle. Authorities say they also received a separate report from a different location of money missing from a parked car. When confronted by law enforcement about the alleged burglaries, Stout exhibited signs of intoxication and admitted to being on the properties in question. However, he denied taking the missing items. His trial is set to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty, he faces a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison and $21,250 in fines.
