Carroll Home Was Unoccupied When Fire Erupted Sunday Morning

A Carroll woman was not at home Sunday morning when a fire broke out at her residence. Carroll Fire Chief, Greg Schreck, says the department received the call at approximately 8:14 a.m. about flames spotted in the rear of the structure at 102 S. West St. Upon arrival, crews could see the fire through a bedroom window and it soon became apparent it had traveled to the attic of the home. Schreck says firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze through an exterior attack, which was immediately followed by a search of the residence for occupants. The structure was deemed clear as Berenice Maldonaldo was out of town at the time of the fire. There was an estimated $75,000 in damage to the home and contents. Firefighters were on scene for around 90 minutes conducting salvage and overhaul operations. The Carroll Police Department and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire is as of yet unknown and an investigation is ongoing.
