Ninety-six of Iowa’s counties participated in selecting 135 new inductees into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the 2019 Iowa State Fair, and Carroll County claims one of those. Cindy Erickson was inducted during a special ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 18 for her service and dedication to 4-H over the past 15 years. Erickson has been the Carroll Champs club leader and is known and respected for not only her work in setting up educational outings, organizing fruit sales, food drives, the annual Easter egg hunt and working at the fair, but also for her generosity of spirit and attitude. “One of the pillars of the Iowa 4-H Youth Development program is youth-adult partnerships,” says Tillie Good, volunteer development specialist. “Our honorees generously give their time and talents to foster these positive partnerships with our 4-H youth.” According to Carroll County Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator, Andrea Irlbeck, the counties select their nominees for their exceptional work in contributing to the lives of the members and the program overall. Many serve as leaders, mentors, fair superintendents or fair board members, ISU Extension council or staff members, fair judges and/or financial supporters. Erickson, Irlbeck says, is someone who 4-H’ers and their families look up to and cherish because she takes the time to volunteer and share her skills.
