Carroll Council Work Session Will Hone In On Priority Components Of Rec Center Updates

The Carroll City Council is heading into overtime Monday night with a scheduled work session on improvements at the Carroll Rec Center. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says RDG Planning and Design will be at the meeting to preview and present in three different areas.

The third will involve benchmarking from a previous community survey compared to results of the latest survey. Pogge-Weaver says the proposed improvements include a zero-entry area to the pool for young patrons, the addition of some lanes that are a little smaller and a little warmer than what is used and preferred by competitive swimmers, a resistance pool and some entertainment features, such as a slide. He says they want to make some areas accessible, even when the pool is closed. This includes the steam and sauna room and the splash pad.

Forty plus years of use has made the renovation and updating of locker rooms a high priority, whether or not the rest of the work is approved.

They would like to increase hallway comfort by creating a space with temperatures matching the aquatic area and a wet classroom adjacent to the pool. Administrative swim meet functions and swim and lifeguard classes can take place there and it can be rented out for pool parties. There is also a proposal for an east side gym addition and a raised walking path over that area.

The council had previously decided at their most recent planning session that the entire project will not be done all at once. They will now need to select which components will move forward. To bring it to a March 3, 2020 referendum, the decision will have to be made by Jan. 13, 2020. Monday’s regular meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. and this work session will follow. The public is encouraged to attend. A link to the meeting packet can be found below.
