Carroll Council Will Review FY2018 Audit And FY2020 Budget Thursday

Local governments are busy honing in on their finalized budgets, which are due to the state auditor by March 15. On Thursday, the Carroll City Council will meet at 5:15 p.m. at the Adams Elementary School board room to continue with their Fiscal Year 2020 budgeting process. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says there are only two items on the agenda, a presentation of the 2018 Fiscal Year audit and the budget documents for 2020. He says the city is in very good shape.

According to Pogge-Weaver, the council will hear and see that Carroll has the second-lowest tax levy rates for cities of like size. And, when all taxable entities are combined, Carroll has the lowest tax levy rate. He points out that this includes the Carroll Public Library and City Hall projects. The public is invited to attend, and Pogge-Weaver says he believes it is important for the Carroll citizens to understand the budget.

The budgeting process is preceded by and somewhat guided by the city’s long-term planning. There have been goals identified that have funding streams included in the budget.

Carroll is currently not required to have rental housing standards in place, but the leaders are considering this move because of the condition of some of the rental properties within the city limits. Prior to creating this position, the city will be working to draft an ordinance, with a goal of having it completed by late spring or early summer. The budget documents can be accessed in three different locations: at City Hall, at the Carroll Public Library or online.

A link to the online budget can be found below. Also available on the city website are links to each of their audit reports for previous years.
