Carroll Council To Consider New Opportunities’ Subdivision And Hear Presentation From Airport Commission

New Opportunities will be presenting a request at Monday night’s Carroll City Council meeting for approval of a new subdivision. The slightly less than one and a half acres is located in the two-mile area north of Highway 30 on the east side of Carroll and is currently zoned general business. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says this proposal has arisen from a recent grant received by New Opportunities.

Pogge-Weaver adds this is good news for the community and for New Opportunities. The council will revisit bids approved at the last meeting for furniture, fixtures and equipment at the new city hall. Since the bids came in under budget, the council will be asked to add filing units and shelving now instead of waiting until a future date as was originally planned. They will also be asked to approve a cutout for audio visual equipment in the council chambers that will result in a minor upcharge. These will increase the total line item in the budget, but it is still projected to fall in under that initial estimate. The Carroll Airport Commission will be conducting a presentation at the meeting. At the time of this airing, Pogge-Weaver says he is unsure what the nature of this presentation will be. The commission had just recently approved a new sign estimated at over $34,000 and they are reportedly currently looking into the potential for a medical flight service to establish a base at the airport. The council will also be discussing bids received for signage inside and out at the new city hall.

Invitations to bid on the five-part package were sent to six companies, four of which were in the City of Carroll. Three were received back. Pogge-Weaver says Trophies Plus of Breda was the low bidder in four of those five segments.

The council meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the Adams Street Elementary School board room on Monday, June 24. The public is encouraged to attend. A link to the meeting’s full packet of information can be found with this story on our website.
