Carroll Authorities Request Arrest Warrant For Woman Accused Of Writing Thousands Of Dollars In Stolen Checks

The Carroll Police Department has requested an arrest warrant for a Denison woman, who is accused of writing thousands of dollars in checks from a stolen checkbook. According to Carroll County District Court records, 42-year-old Esther Rebekka Ramirez is wanted on one count of forgery, a class D felony. Authorities launched an investigation into the alleged theft after the victim reported a blank checkbook had been stolen from her mailbox. A criminal complaint indicates Ramirez was seen on video surveillance on at least two occasions using the stolen checkbook, once at the Carroll HyVee and another at the Carroll Walmart. Multiple checks were written from Jan. 4 to Jan. 31. Forgery carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and up to $7,500 in fines.
