Brayton Man Faces Charges For Failing To Pay For Tank Full Of Diesel In Stolen Gas-Powered Van

A Brayton man now faces a theft charge in District Court for Carroll County for allegedly filling a stolen, gas-powered van with diesel and driving away without paying. According to court records, 30-year-old Bradley James Barringer, who has reported addresses in Brayton and Rockwell City, was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Pottawattamie County jail by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor, in connection to an incident on May 1 at the Casey’s General Store in the 500 block of U.S. Highway 30. Barringer is accused of putting $51 of diesel into the gas-fueled van and leaving the scene. Upon further investigation, authorities determined the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen out of Webster County. Barringer was released on his own recognizance after pleading not guilty at an initial appearance earlier this week. Additional charges are pending in Webster County in connection to the stolen vehicle. Barringer is currently on probation after pleading guilty to felony burglary charges in February.
