Books Featuring Farming From A Child’s Perspective To Be Presented At Local Fairs This Summer

A series of books that are written from a child’s point of view will be featured at several local fairs this summer. Education Program Coordinator for Loess Hills Agriculture in the Classroom, Melanie Bruck, is working to bring educational opportunities outside of the classroom and beyond the school year. “Educating our students about agriculture is a full-time job, with no summers off,” Bruck says. “I am delighted to partner with local counties to present engaging, hands-on activities for children grades K-12 as they explore their county fairs. The popular children’s books, “My Family’s Farm,” will be presented at the Crawford, Harrison and Shelby County Fairs. The books highlight real children who tell the stories about their family farms and teach others how they raise corn, soybeans, beef, cattle, pigs and apples. The books also highlight the production of renewable energy. The Crawford County Fair presentations, in conjunction with the Crawford County Farm Bureau, will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 and on Saturday, July 27. Details on the times and locations at the other two fairs can be found below.
