Audubon Residents Will See Slight Increase To Garbage Rates With City’s Switch To New Contractor

Garbage rates for Audubon residents will be going up at the end of the year with the city’s switch to a different contractor. The city council approved an ordinance change at their meeting last week which will bump fees up by three dollars per household. The new contractor, Carroll Refuse, will take over collections in January 2020. City Clerk, Joe Foran, says most people will not notice their bill has even changed.

With the switch to Carroll Refuse, residents will no longer need to provide their own garbage bins. The company uses specialized receptacles that can automatically be picked by collectors. Foran says they will even deliver the containers to your house.

Delivery is expected to occur sometime in December. He adds customers will have two different-sized bins to choose from: 96-gallon or 35-gallon bins. Examples of each are currently at Audubon City Hall to give residents a chance to see their options before deciding which one they would like to use. Foran expects people will like the new procedures once they are implemented.

Audubon officials will provide more information as the switch draws nearer. Individuals with questions are encouraged to contact city hall at 563-3269 or Carroll Refuse at 792-0101.
