Audubon DVSART Will Be Holding Balloon Release Ceremony To Honor Domestic Violence Victims

Audubon County’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Response Team (DVSART) is planning a balloon release in memory of victims during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the eco-friendly, biodegradable balloons will be released at 12:15 p.m. on the Audubon County Courthouse lawn. There will be 291 balloons, in honor of the victims who have been killed in domestic violence related incidents in the state since 1995; which is when the Iowa Attorney General’s Office began tracking those statistics. The DVSART was formed about two years ago through the partnership of the Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics, Catholic Charities, the Audubon County Attorney’s Office, Audubon County Sheriff’s Office and Audubon Police Department. There will be no charge to the DVSART team for the event as Lori’s Flowers will fill the balloons at no charge and a Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant has covered all other expenses. The public is invited to attend Wednesday’s special ceremony and help release the balloons.
